Charity Digital Skills: What the 2026 Report Means for Wales

The voluntary and community sector plays a vital role in supporting people and communities across Wales, including delivering and supporting many social care services.

A new article from Newid Cymru provides a Welsh perspective on the latest Charity Digital Skills Report 2026, highlighting both the progress being made and the challenges charities continue to face in their digital journeys.

Newid is a partnership between WCVA, Cwmpas and ProMo-Cymru, funded by the Welsh Government, which promotes good digital practice across the third sector in Wales through training, support, information and resources.

The article draws out key findings from the UK-wide report, including:

• Increased participation from Welsh organisations, providing the clearest picture yet of digital maturity across the Welsh third sector.
• Strong confidence in core digital skills such as data protection, everyday digital tools and cyber security.
• Ongoing challenges around digital strategy, service design and digital transformation, particularly for smaller charities.
• Growing interest in digital and AI, alongside the need for additional skills, support and investment.

Rather than duplicating the full findings, we encourage partners to read the article to explore what the report means for Wales and how third sector organisations can respond.

The charity and voluntary sector are essential partners in delivering social care and wider wellbeing services across Wales. Understanding the opportunities and challenges highlighted in this report can help organisations plan for the future and continue to provide high-quality support to the people and communities they serve.

For organisations looking to strengthen their digital capabilities, Newid Cymru offers a wide range of practical resources, guidance, training and support to help charities and voluntary organisations make the most of digital tools and approaches.
